How To Install Removable Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Removable Peel and Stick Wallpaper has revolutionised the way we use wallpaper in our homes. Applying wallpaper was once a permanent and very expensive option, requiring trades to apply and a serious commitment to the colour palette and design. 

Now, peel and stick wallpaper can be removed when you move out of your home or simply change your mind down the track.

You can also easily apply it yourself, cutting down money on trades. 

Tools You Need To Apply Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Preparing Your Surface:

Before you start, take the following steps to ensure a professional, bubble free finish.

• Patch and sand any lumps and bumps in your wall to ensure a smooth surface. 

• Ensure your wall is clean by wiping down with sugar soap and allowing it to completely dry. Note that any dust left on the wall can show through the wallpaper as well as affecting the adhesiveness of the paper, so it’s important to clean your wall thoroughly.

• If your wall has been recently painted, please allow 30 days or more for the paint to de-gas before applying the wallpaper. (Note that as stated in descriptions, the paper will not adhere to Dulux Wash and Wear or other teflon paints without additional adhesive.)

Application:

• Lay your wallpaper out somewhere first and work out the order of patterns. Your wallpaper pattern will either repeat every one or two drops, so it's important to pop the rolls side by side and work out their order. Roll out the top 30cm or so of each so you can see how the pattern sits. 

• Each panel has a 1cm ‘mirror’ section on the right edge. Place the next panel along over this 1cm panel to ensure your pattern matches and an even coverage.

• Work from left to right along your wall when applying.

• Ensure that the first panel is straight - if it’s out of line,  the rest of the panels will be too. 

• Peel about 10cm of wallpaper off the backing paper. 

• Working from the centre of the panel towards the outside edges, gently rub the wallpaper flat using your wallpaper smoother.

• Working slowly, move out towards the edges and down the panel. 

• If you get any bubbles, lightly rub and press them down to remove. If this doesn’t work (ie, there is more air trapped under the paper), peel the paper back up again to remove them and lay it again. 

• Peel and stick wallpaper can be removed and restuck several times, so you can easily peel it back up to remove trapped air and work down again. 

• Once you reach the end of your wall, use a sharp stanley life to trim the excess paper.
